Formed in 1970, the Virginia Slims Tennis Circuit was a tennis tour consisting of nine professional women’s tennis players. Founded in part as a response to dramatic underpayment of women athletes and in part as a marketing ploy for Philip Morris’ Virginia Slims cigarettes (principally targeted at women), the Virginia Slims Tennis Circuit would go on to form the basis of the modern Women’s Tennis Association.

This exhibition tracks the evolution of the Virginia Slims Tennis Circuit and the protests against its sponsor by Doctors Ought to Care and other organizations from the 1970s to the 1990s.
