New York State Journal of Medicine (1983-1985)

As editor of the New York State Journal of Medicine from 1983 to 1985, Alan Blum, MD produced the first theme issues on smoking at any U.S. peer-reviewed journal in the U.S. More than 200 authors from throughout the world contributed to these issues. This collection includes correspondence with the authors, news coverage of the issues, reviews of The Cigarette Underworld, a book based on the December 1983 theme issue, and letters of protest sent to the Medical Society of the State of New York following the interim executive vice president’s firing of Dr. Blum in December 1985.
